In today’s busy, get-it-done-yesterday world, it can be difficult to find time for the most important person: yourself. That’s why we’re taking some time off in June to celebrate Professional Wellness Month! We could all use a reminder now and then that looking and feeling fantastic—yes, even while at work—are key to our overall health. To better enjoy the 9-to-5 grind, consider these useful tips.

  • Keep active. We’ve all been there—some weeks just seem to slog on endlessly, while others are over before you know it. The secret? You must keep active! Sitting at a computer for 8 hours straight takes a toll on your body, and you can bet you’ll start to feel it by the time Friday rolls around. Do yourself a favor by taking a 10-minute break at least once every hour or two. Head outside, breathe in some fresh air, and go for a walk around the block—your body will thank you.

    There are also small ways you can get in a bit of exercise even as you’re sitting. Try doing butt crunches while in front of the computer or bringing small weights into the office and pumping a bit of iron on your lunch break. Who knows? You may even start a trend.

  • Take time for you. While you’re at it, try to avoid eating lunch at your desk. It can be difficult to convince yourself that you have 30 to 60 minutes to spare, but itvs better to stay a bit late than not to have taken any breaks throughout the day. Be kind to yourself—if you feel the stress starting to overwhelm your psyche, close your eyes, breathe deeply, and take a moment to decompress.
