Obagi® Ambassador Jaimie Shares Her Skin Transformation: A Sun Damaged Girl's Best Friend
Jaimie, like many others, thought that tanned skin meant healthy skin. What she didn’t realize was that her tan was masking years of sun damage. After starting a job at a MediSpa, Jaimie quickly realized that the true way to healthy skin is through good skin care and avoiding the harmful effects of the sun. After using Obagi Nu-Derm® to help address years of sun damage** and melasma, Jaimie has learned the importance of sunscreen and the power of Obagi. This is her transformational story.
Name: Jaimie Wilkins
Primary Skin Concern: sun damage and melasma
Skin Care Advice: Always use a SPF. I love the Obagi Sun Shield Matte SPF 50. It goes on very well under makeup - no greasy feel! I tell people it’s pointless to correct your skin if you are not going to protect it with SPF.†
Before I became a Patient Care Coordinator at a cosmetic surgery practice in Virginia, I really wasn’t aware of the damage the sun can do to your face. I rarely used sunscreen and my skin care routine consisted of a few over-the-counter products. Worst of all, I frequently went indoor tanning as I was on the Washington Nationals entertainment squad "The Nat Pack" and wanted to look tan; this also caused me to be in the sun a lot.
When I started working at Exclusively Faces Cosmetic Surgery and MediSpa in Winchester, Virginia I became educated on skin care and the harmful things I was doing to my skin. I stopped tanning and quickly noticed the damage I had caused from the sun and tanning bed. In addition, watching patients undergo laser treatments to minimize the appearance of their sun damage was a wakeup call... and those are the lucky patients—as opposed to those who had melanoma.
I had sun spots, dull, aging skin and melasma on my forehead and cheek area. I looked years older than I really was! It is amazing to see the damage that remains once the tan goes away. I started using the Obagi Nu-Derm System and after my initial transformation stage I could see a HUGE difference in my skin. The sun spots and melasma were gone and I had healthier, brighter-looking skin.††
I only regret not knowing about Obagi earlier and more importantly, not knowing about the dangers of tanning. I, like many other young people, was under the misconception that you have to have a tan to look like you have good skin.
Today, I use my Obagi Nu-Derm System with the Obagi Professional-C Serum and ELASTIderm Eye Cream daily. I couldn’t image my skin without it! This skin care line really works. Regardless of my future profession—beauty industry or not—I learned a very valuable lesson about skin care and will never use anything but the Obagi Nu-Derm System.
We also asked Jaimie some fun questions to get to know her better.
What would you consider one of your biggest achievements? I have two! The first would be earning my black belt in Tae Kwon Do. I think it’s important for women to be able to defend themselves. I also cheered for the Washington Nationals and had the honor of cheering for them the final year they were at RFK stadium and the first year they were at Nats Park. I am a huge baseball fan!
What is the nicest thing anyone has ever said to you about your skin thanks to Obagi? The nicest thing anyone has told me is how bright my skin looks. I am constantly told by patients that I have beautiful skin and they want their skin to look like mine. My family and friends have also noticed a big change in my skin and my mom says I look like a teenager again!
What is your favorite quote? “Women are like tea bags - you never know their true strength until you put them in hot water” - Eleanor Roosevelt
